106.7 The Fan and The Team 980 are the radio homes of the Capitals and Wizards, as well as the Sports Junkies in the morning, and coming soon, we’ll have a new TV partner for all of them…sort of?

On Wednesday, NBC Sports Washington, announced a rebrand coming in September, as the network will become the Monumental Sports Network.

NBC Sports Washington, which simulcasts the Junkies every morning and also boasts JP Finlay among others as part of their on-air talent roster, is owned by Ted Leonsis’ Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which acquired the network from Comcast last year, and it is now shifting its focus both on-air and digitally to the teams owned by Leonsis' company.

A video announcement on Twitter and an official press release promised “unparalleled access to your favorite teams,” including more players mic’ed up, alternate feeds, and new camera angles, as well as some new shows – including magazine shows for the Caps and Wizards, a new Top 10 series, and a TBA series hosted by Rachel Nichols – and classic Caps and Wizards games.

The official press release announcing the change also revealed the network will “carry hundreds of hours of programming for local collegiate and high-school level games across D.C., Virginia and Maryland” as well.

“When we acquired NBC Sports Washington, we committed to building the best local sports network for our fans. Today’s announcement is the first of many which reflect significant investments that we are making back into our media platform that will greatly upgrade the everyday experience for D.C. sports fans and our various partners,” Zach Leonsis, MSE’s President of Media & New Enterprises, said in the release. “We’re incredibly excited to debut the many enhancements that we’ve developed over the course of this past year and believe that fans will genuinely appreciate the thoughtful approach that we’re taking to bring them closer to the teams and athletes that they love and admire.”
