A little DC cross-chat from the Junkies on Wednesday morning – Team 980 afternoon host Craig Hoffman joined the guys to break down the Commanders’ initial 53-man roster, and his thoughts on some of the moves that were and weren’t made.
In discussing that, though, injuries came up, leading to wonder if Curtis Hodges made the team because there’s question of Logan Thomas’ health…and that led EB to ask about Chase Young, and Hoffman gave this interesting answer on the possibility of there being more than meets the eye:
“I have no idea what is going on. I sounded the alarm bells this weekend when someone asked Ron about Chase at the postgame presser, and he pretty aggressively shut it down – and that was weird, because if Chase’s doctor’s appointment went well, you could just say that. But I think there’s some friction there; I don’t know what it is or what it’s about – maybe Ron is frustrated with the diagnosis and the doctors – but it’s clear there’s frustration there. Is it Chase not wanting to take risks in a contract year, or the reality he shouldn’t be playing right now based off his medical information? I don’t know, but you can read the tea leaves and see there’s frustration there.”
That said, Craig would be ‘recklessly speculating’ on Young’s Week 1 availability now, but Bish asked him to do that, so Craig said he thinks Chase will indeed be starting on Sept. 10.
"I think there's a lot of drama, but he was progressing last week - there were instructions to keep his head out of drills and they weren't in full pads, but he was progressing," Craig said. "Unfortunately, a lot of drama has been par for the course with this whole thing."
