Doc Walker: RFK site stadium legislation proof of 'how much of a deterrent Dan Snyder was to progress'

Big news in the Commanders stadium saga broke late Thursday, with WaPo reporting that U.S. Representative James Comer is preparing legislation that could allow DC to build a new stadium at the RFK site.

Doc Walker is one of many Commanders who played for the then-Redskins at RFK Stadium, so he knows that site and atmosphere well…and even though an RFK return hasn’t been a realistic option for many years, the fact we can even talk about this now shows just how poorly the franchise has been seen in the Dan Snyder era.

“I have to pass on it, because that’s just ripping your guts out. It is one of the indications that the whole world will open up if this thing is consummated, because then, the possibilities are unlimited,” Doc said Friday, as he and Scott Jackson filled in for Kevin Sheehan. “It shows you how much of a deterrent this group was to progress.”

“Last year when the story came out about the land purchase agreements in Virginia, the thing was they still had land in Landover, but there was no path to DC and the RFK site at that point, until the story broke in November he was selling,” Scott added. “Goes to show how quickly things can change.”

And, Doc says, it might be a good final move of closure from the Dan Snyder era, which is expected to end officially in two weeks and send Snyder off into the sunset a very rich man financially, if not morally or socially.

“I’m just trying to think how you process a $3 billion profit; I think it would really shrink your memory so you don’t even focus on failure,” Doc said. “Just spend a moment thinking about the Canadian wildfire-sized blaze he left. I think he is conscious of the fact that his job was so poorly done he left the country; he left with a bag much bigger than he deserved, but he pulled it off after the other geniuses in the club invited him in. I mean, come on dude. There were teams worse, and he’s not the first guy to destroy and lose a good thing, but the fact that it’s still salvageable is crazy.”
