ESPN’s Matt Miller joined Craig Hoffman on Monday to recap a memorable weekend at the NFL Draft, and it’s safe to say he walked away from the draft liking what the Commanders did with their picks.
“I liked what they did,” Miller said. “If you look at this draft as, ‘Hey, let’s get ourselves set up for the future, for what’s coming. New ownership, likely a new stadium, and a situation in 2024 where there will likely be a lot of top quarterback talent at the top of the draft.’
“I think it’s a win/win. I love Emmanuel Forbes…I am a gigantic K.J. Henry fan. I think he’s gonna be an absolute steal. Overall, not the sexiest drafts in terms of positions, but I think a really smart one for building a team.”
As for Miller’s experience working ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage on television for the first time, there were certainly moments where he felt like he had to pinch himself, much like the draft picks who were realizing their lifelong dreams of becoming an NFL player.
“It hasn’t hit yet…exhaustion kicked in fast,” Miller said. I woke up Sunday morning and felt like I got hit by a car.
“Five minutes before the draft starts…I got this weird, ‘I should probably turn around.’ I looked to my left, and my parents are standing there. they were waving an cheering, and I had to turn around because I was getting pretty emotional and couldn’t be bawling on live TV. Top to bottom, it was an amazing day. Getting to work with Mel [Kiper] and Todd [McShay] and Rece Davis and Louis Riddick was awesome.”
