As the sale of the Commanders seems to be on the precipice of being officially approved, Kevin Sheehan says that’s when the real work will begin.
“This could be the last full day of Dan Snyder’s tenure,” Sheehan said to open Wednesday’s show, before adding that after the initial celebration, it will be time to get to work.
“Then, it’s reconstruction time…reconstruction went on for 12 years after the Civil War ended. Hopefully Harris and company can reconstruct faster than that. But there is a reconstruction in order.”
Sheehan also provided some context for what the immediate fallout could be after the sale, adding that it will likely be a much quicker process after ownership approval than it was when Snyder took over.
“It took another month after the owners voted yes on Snyder at the end of May in 1999 for Snyder to close the deal,” Sheehan said. “That’s not going to happen this time, because it’s just Dan, Tanya, and his sister selling the team. There is not a board of trustees for a foundation selling the team. The expectation is when the owners vote ¾ ‘yes’ on Thursday, or more than ¾, that the Snyder/Harris deal will close shortly thereafter.”
As for what will happen immediately following Thursday’s vote, Sheehan says there may be a formal introduction of a new era of Commanders football.
“I’m still hearing that Friday, there may be an introductory press conference with Josh Harris addressing the media,” Sheehan said.
