How well did the Washington Commanders do in the NFL Draft and how much did Emmanuel Forbes' weight hurt his prospects? To get some insights on those questions and more, Kevin Sheehan recently spoke with Scot McCloughan, the former GM of the San Francisco 49ers, Super Bowl-winning executive with the Seattle Seahawks, and Washington's GM from 2015-16.

"[The weight was] the only thing that held me back from giving him a Top 10 grade, in my opinion," McCloughan told Sheehan about the Commanders' first-round pick. "Watching tape this year of all the corners, I thought he was the most gifted, be able to press and play off [coverage]. And the thing that's unique about him playing press [doubters would say] 'you can't he's not strong enough,' he's got good length, he's smart. He reminded me a lot of Richard Sherman, who we drafted in Seattle from the standpoint of, he may not be the quickest or the fastest, have the most twitch, but the son of a gun is always in playmaking position, he almost always gets his hands on the ball, and when he does it's an interception. It changes games."

McCloughan also pointed to how Forbes on tape was putting his nose into plays in the run game which made the former GM say, "this cat's got a little edge to him" and how it looks like the small corner plays like he has a chip on his shoulder.

For McCloughan's thoughts on how Forbes fits into Washingto's secondary and his full breakdown of the Commanders' 2023 draft class, including how second-round pick defensive back Quan Martin is expected to be a big-time contributor for the Commanders on day one and the high hopes for third-round pick Ricky Stromberg, listen on the player above.
