Kevin Sheehan welcomed on The Athletic’s Ben Standig to the show on Monday, and the two went through Standig’s recent piece that went through the worst Washington players of the Dan Snyder era.
Starting with quarterback, Standig explained his pick for the worst choice of the soon-to-be former owner’s chaotic tenure:
“For me, the argument was the remainder of the RGIII years after his rookie year, because of his fall, the way the fanbase turned, and what it meant for the organization,” Standig said. “But ultimately, I went with Jeff George. The process behind that choice, to bring him in when you had an established guy in Brad Johnson, something they hadn’t had in years, and Snyder brings in this guy who is very talented, but terrible in the locker room and an underperformer…he starts two games, they lose those games 67-3…they cut him, and to some degree, this all led to at the end of the year, Snyder letting go of Marty [Schottenheimer] because he wasn’t having any fun.”
Standig also went with Albert Haynesworth at defensive tackle, Jason Taylor at defensive end, and TJ Duckett and Derrius Guice at running back. You can see Standig’s full list at this link.
