The Washington Football Team has an agreement on a contract extension with former first-round pick Jonathan Allen.
Per his agency, Allen has signed a four-year extension worth $72 million, including a $30 million signing bonus.
At $18 million in average annual value, this makes 26-year-old Allen the fourth highest paid defensive lineman in the NFL. He trails only Aaron Donald of the Rams ($22.5MM AAV), DeForest Buckner of the Colts ($21MM), and Chris Jones of the Chiefs ($20MM).
Allen, the 17th overall pick out of Alabama in 2017, is the first of four defensive linemen selected in the first round by Washington since 2017, followed by Daron Payne (13th overall, 2018), Montez Sweat (26th overall, 2019) and Chase Young (2nd overall, 2020).
Re-signing Allen now goes a long way towards showing head coach Ron Rivera & Co. intend to preserve the dominant defensive front they've already invested so heavily in.
