Kevin Sheehan prefers Cason Wallace over Anthony Black for Wizards at No. 8

The Washington Wizards have been wheeling and dealing all week, agreeing to trade Kristaps Porzingis to Boston on Wednesday night and sending Chris Paul - acquired for Bradley Beal over the weekend – to Golden State for Jordan Poole on Thursday afternoon. And they still have the No. 8 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft on Thursday night to come.

One name that has been linked to the Wizards in the first year was Arkansas guard Anthony Black. So Kevin Sheehan took a close look at Black and Kentucky guard Cason Wallace to make an educated take on these two players and here is what he came away with: "I like Cason Wallace a lot more."

Wallace, who is six-foot-four, is "just tough as nails," Sheehan added.

"[Wallace] reminds me of [now Sacramento Kings guard] Davion Mitchell, who I just loved when he won the National Championship with Baylor a couple of years ago," he added. "I really liked Mitchell, I loved his toughness, I loved his defense, and I just thought he was a relentless competitor and I feel the same way about Kentucky point guard Cason Wallace... just a beast of high-energy perimeter defending competitor. There's Marcus Smart in him."

Sheehan said Wallace needs to work on his shooting stroke as he enters the league, but the guard is "an absolute lock to be a contibutor and to be a franchise tough guy."

"If the Wizards had the chance to draft him at No. 8 I wouldn't be unhappy at all," Sheehan said. "I would be excited if they picked him. I think that would be a really good foundational player moving forward... competes at a high level and has a true love for the game you can see that. I like him more than Black."

Another player that Sheehan really liked is Indiana guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, who will more than likely be on the board at No. 8 and could fall further.

"He is a bucket-getter," Sheehan said. "Every time I watched him I said, 'Man does that translate to the next level.' There's just no chance that this guy isn't gonna be eventually a big-time scorer at the next level... a guy that can just get buckets."

Two other players that got a shoutout were UCLA's Jaime Jaquez and Penn State's Jalen Pickett. Tap the above player to hear Sheehan's full take.
