Bradley Beal is on the trading block, and rumors continue to swirl about his future – and on Friday morning, the Junkies revealed that Sacramento is interested in Beal, and he might be interested in them.
“The lead story as far as I’m concerned is that Beal told the Wizards if they’re going to rebuild, he doesn’t want to be a part of it,” EB said.
“If he tells you that, and you’re going to tear it down and start from scratch, then shove him out the door,” Cakes said.
Bish noted that Sacramento, who finished third in the West last year, really don’t need perimeter help, and the report by Sam Quinn of CBS Sports says that a Harrison Barnes sign-and-trade would be a key piece of the deal…if they can make that happen.
“To make salaries match up, you’re going to have to throw some of those perimeter guys in there…if you’re Sacramento, why would you want Bradley Beal?” Lurch asked. “I don’t watch the Kings every night, but they had a pretty good year, and it wasn’t because they lacked a shooting guard.”
Quinn’s report even stated that the Kings ‘lack easily matching salary’ to make it work, so even with a Barnes deal at $25 million, they’d have to throw in at least two more players just to match Beal’s $46 million salary – players they may not be able to afford to trade.
“Again, to me, the story is less about the Kings, and more about Brad wanting to move on if the Wizards are going to rebuild, so he has to expand it to more teams,” EB said.
“It seems like he wants to go to a team that’s good and where he can win a ring,” Bish said, before listing off the salaries of the Kings’ best players not named Fox and Sabonis. “I don’t know; we’ll see what happens, but I’d guess you’re going to hear more teams, but beware: this is a guy who has only played about 70 percent of his games the last few years.”
Many pundits have said a Beal deal likely won’t happen until he sees what the Wizards can do in the draft and free agency…but is there a chance something happens before next Thursday’s draft?
“I think it probably does, because that means draft capital coming back to Washington,” Bish said.
“If you have at least two teams jockeying for his services, then you’re going to get a better deal,” Cakes replied.
Drab thinks it will be a sign-and-trade, in the early days of free agency, but one thing is clear: it’s time for Beal to be elsewhere.
“The Wizards brought in this new front office to do their thing,” Bish shot back. “Do whatever you have to do, we need a different look and have to start building from scratch, so maybe this is where they start.”
