CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago Police Officer is getting "revved up" for a good cause.

Sergeant Matt O'Brien of the 4th District on the Far Southeast Side, put out a Twitter video Saturday showing his rebuilt 2011 Ford Crown Victoria car — the model often used for police cars — that will serve as a race car for a Special Olympics charity race, called The Dirty O at the 5-0.

Decked out with blue hub caps, a blue hood and trunk, the car features the Chicago Police emblem, the number 04, stickers and sponsor tags.

O'Brien said the annual benefit race brings police officers from around the state to build and race cars on the dirt track to raise money for the Special Olympics.

"It is a great charity cause and raises lots of money, it's the highest-grossing event," O'Brien said.

According to the event page, each officer must raise a minimum of $500 in donations to participate. The winning officer not only will receive ultimate bragging rights as the fastest cop in town but will be presented with the trophy.

O'Brien said the event is one of the biggest events that Special Olympics of Illinois hosts and encourages people to come out and support the cause while also supporting the police at the family-friendly event.

The race is scheduled for July 25 at the Joliet dirt race track, The "Dirt" Oval.
