
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- U.S. News & World Report recently released its ranking of the best public high schools in the country, and five Chicago Public Schools made it in the nation's top 100.
Near the top of the list is Walter Payton College Prep, which ranked the fourth-best public high school in the country, according to the latest ranking released from U.S. News & World Report. It was ranked ninth last year.
Additionally, Northside College Prep ranked 26th; Jones College Prep ranked 57th; Whitney Young Magnet ranked 70th; and Lane Tech College Prep ranked 79th.
Illinois tied with Texas for 19th place among states with the best public schools, according to the U.S. News & World Report.
The rankings were made based on data from the 2018-19 school year, meaning COVID-19 didn’t have an impact. The list is based on metrics around college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.
