CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A leading Chicago anti-abortion advocate said the actions Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago alderpersons are taking to protect people seeking abortions in Chicago are more symbolic than real.

Eric Scheidler, Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League, said Mayor Lightfoot was “virtue signaling” with her latest executive order and called it “propaganda.”

There are no laws against people from another states coming to Chicago for abortions or other health care, Scheidler said.

He said U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh suggested any laws that punish those who cross state lines for abortions or reproductive health care would be unconstitutional.

Scheidler said he believes protections against such laws are meaningless.

“Far more concerning is the $1 million Lightfoot is pledging for an abortion fund, and the message this sends for Chicago mothers, especially poor and underprivileged mothers, minority mothers,” Scheidler said. “Lori Lightfoot is urging these women, effectively, to get abortions.”

On Friday, Scheidler’s group will be joining a nationwide effort to hang anti-abortion banners from bridges in 48 different cities.
