(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police are investigating a shooting Wednesday that left a mother of three dead in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, and the godmother of one of those young children says he's been calling out for his mother.
The godmother of a 2-year-old boy sighs when she thinks about what she should tell her godson when he asks about his mother. Twenty-three-year-old Sanna Foster was shot and Wednesday afternoon after she picked up her son from daycare.
"What do you tell them, you know?” Barbara Love tells WBBM Newsradio. "You just have to say, 'Mommie loves you, too. Mommie's thinking of you. Mommie misses you.'
"You just have to reassure him that everything is OK."
Love says her 2-year-old godson is still in the hospital after being shot.
"He's wearing a cast and stuff right now. The bullet fractured his ankle bone. So, he'll be in a cast for six to eight weeks."
Love says she just can't accept that this is the norm.
"What happened to this mother -- it shouldn't have happened. And now she's left three minor babies behind. And the family and friends and godmother, we're all left to pick up the pieces the best we know how."
An online fundraiser has been set up to help the family.
