CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Canadian developer has detailed plans for nearly 3,000 apartments on what’s now industrial land on Goose Island.

Omni Group plans to build apartment towers on eight acres of land along the river and Halsted Street at the southern tip of Goose Island.

The four-phase plan, called Halsted Point, would include four apartment high-between 30 and 56 stories tall, as well as a 28-story tower with 247 hotel rooms and 107,500 square feet of offices.

Additionally, there would be 3.8 acres of public open space and almost 1,500 parking spaces, mostly below ground.

According to the Tribune, Omni Group, a Vancouver-based developer, seeks public backing in order to win the support of 27th Ward Ald. Walter Burnett, and eventually the full City Council. The plans were presented in a virtual meeting hosted by the Neighbors of River West and the Near North Unity Program.

Onni expects to submit the planned development, which needs a zoning change to move forward, to the city by next month.

According to the Tribune, the project involves about 2.7 million square feet of buildings, constructed over 10-plus years, and 20 percent of the apartments would have affordable rents.
