EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Evanston alderman aims to decriminalize several behaviors with changes coming before the Human Services Committee tonight.
8th ward Alderman Devon Reid is proposing an end to publication of the police blotter, writing on Facebook, the public sharing of the name, address, age, and accused violation of everyone arrested serves no purpose but to embarrass and harass residents who have not been found guilty at the time.
He wants to change the wording on the city ordinance regarding public nudity and the regulation of female breasts, saying he wants to treat men and women equally and eliminate ambiguity for trans people.
Ald. Reid also wants to lift the ban on entering a public space with a closed container of alcohol or cannabis – saying both of these substances are legal. But he does want to keep the ban on public consumption.
