
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago homeowner used a surprising weapon to keep a burglar at bay until police arrested him.
The homeowner told Chicago police when he came home from running errands on Monday, he found a man inside his garage.
According to CWB Chicago, that's when the homeowner used a sword to keep the burglar from fleeing. When police arrived, they found some of the homeowner's power tools in a basket on the suspect's bike so they arrested him.
In court, prosecutors identified the suspect as Eric Smith, 55 who was previously convicted of burglary in 2014 and 2020. Bail was set at $10,000, according to the Cook County State Attorney's office.
