There's been an added step when filing your state income tax return with "My Tax Illinois" website.
If you've been using "My Tax Illinois" to file your state income tax returns in recent years, there's an added wrinkle to the process.
The Revenue Department is letting people know that those who don't already have a registered account must apply for an ID number that is sent to them in the mail, a process that typically takes about a week.
In previous years, taxpayers could use my tax without logging in and needing an ID number.
The revenue department told the Chicago Tribune the actual red tape is an attempt to reduce fraud in Illinois tax filings. Though, there's been no breach of information within the department.
