(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago man accused of stealing a necklace from an Orland Park jewelry store last year sold the $12,500 item for a fraction of its value, police said Thursday.
Orland Park police say Aaron Hicks, 29, is believed to be the man who entered Zevar Jewelers at Orland Square Mall on three occasions and expressed interest in the necklace. On his third visit, June 19, he tried it on and ran out of the store, police said.
Authorities linked that incident with similar thefts at suburban jewelry stores. Norridge Police offered evidence from a robbery in their community that led to the identification of Hicks, Orland Park Police said.
Hicks allegedly sold the stolen necklace from Zevar Jewelers for “a fraction of the value,” police said.
Chicago police arrested him Dec. 24 during a domestic-disturbance call. A judge ordered him held on $20,000 bond, with his next court date slated for Jan. 12, Orland Park police said.
Hicks is charged with felony theft, police said.
