(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The state of Illinois is ending the current system of contact tracing for COVID-19 cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says it will still do contract tracing at congregate living facilities, like nursing homes.
But work is ending for the outside contractors hired two years ago to do contact tracing for the rest of the general public.
Starting June 1, the state health department will message people who are COVID-positive. A link to a website will tell those people how to notify close contacts.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stopped recommending universal contact tracing a couple of months ago.
