CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police said a street robbery crew committed two armed robberies and a carjacking early Thursday morning in the Portage Park neighborhood.

The crimes occurred at 1:30 a.m. and 1:40 a.m. on the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street and the 4900 block of West Lawrence Street, police said.

Five armed men and a white SUV were involved in both.

In the first incident, police said, a 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when a white SUV pulled up, and five men with guns got out and took the man’s wallet. He was not injured.

Police said there was also a black SUV involved.

Ten minutes later, they targeted a 46-year-old man sitting in a 2021 black Toyota sedan.

Again, a white SUV pulled up and five men armed with guns surrounded his car.

They forced him out and beat him on the head before taking his wallet and car.  He refused medical attention.

Police are trying to identify those involved.
