(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Felony charges are expected to be announced Friday against a Chicago police sergeant and an officer, following a shooting in Pilsen two months ago.

It was around 7 a.m. on July 22 when the two officers in the Major Accidents Unit were going to the police academy for training when they saw four people in masks loitering in front of a closed business in the 1000 block of West 18th Street, officials said.

After the officers identified themselves as police, one of the individuals pulled out a handgun, and there was a shootout.

A 23-year-old man was shot, and a 35-year-old bystander was grazed by a bullet, authorities said.

Now, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office says a police sergeant and an officer are being charged with felonies related to the incident. A news conference was scheduled for Friday morning.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the city’s police watchdog, has until next Thursday to release material related to its investigation.
