(WBEN) - New York's Cannabis Control Board Wednesday morning approved 212 additional conditional adult-use dispensary (CAURD) licenses to applicants, bringing the expanded CAURD program to 463 licenses to date.
"This expansion is necessary to help prepare New York's market for the next phase of adult-use cannabis," said Chris Alexander, Executive Director of the New York State Office of Cannabis Management.
"The decision to further expand the CAURD program will help ensure the retail market is robust enough to sell the cannabis grown by New York farmers and accelerate the transition of New York consumers from the illicit to the legal market. The individuals and entities receiving provisional licensure can now begin the work of identifying what soon be able to then begin the work of identifying and securing a retail dispensary locations and submitting those locations to the office for review and approval."

Of the 212 licenses approved, nine were approved for the Western New York region. Those nine entities are:
- 716 Cannabis
- Brownies LLC
- WesCare Transportation LLC
- The BonTemps Firm Retail, LLC
- JS Curry and Associates, LLC
- 82-J LLC
- Demarino's, LLC
- WNYC II, LLC
- Fire Exotics, LLC
In addition, the Cannabis Control Board also approved another lab testing site, Coral Reef Labs, located in Johnson City, Broome County.
Another important item of note on the agenda were the amendments made to medical cannabis, which include requiring terpene content to be reported on lab testing as terpenes oftentimes play a therapeutic role, therefore disclosing that information is necessary for medical cannabis patients.
The Cannabis Control Board also approved the Cannabis Growers Showcase, which allows licensed cultivators to present their product to retailers and consumers.
