JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WCBS 880) — A woman whose body was found in Lincoln Park on Sunday was allegedly strangled while out for a run.
On Sunday morning, when 45-year-old Carolina Cano, from Peru, did not show up to Church, friends grew concerned.
Her body was later found in the lake at Lincoln Park in Jersey City.
She had been strangled, authorities say.
Hudson County Freeholder Bill O’Dea says cameras in the park recorded her jogging here about 5:40 a.m., before sunrise.
“Based on the camera footage we looked at, we were able to see the victim coming into the park and going to that area, but at some point she went off of that ringroad area, which is lit and into the area where the fields are," O'Dea said.
As police hunt for her killer, O’Dea says the county is looking to add more cameras and lighting around the lake and interior fields.
The sheriff’s office and Jersey City police have increased patrols.
There will be a community meeting Tuesday evening at the Gallo Center to discuss safety and security.
