Man, 62, killed by hit-run pickup driver on New Year's Eve

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 62-year-old man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run pickup truck driver in the Bronx on New Year's Eve, police said.

Edwin Rivera was struck near Broadway and East 238th Street in Kingsbridge around 4:35 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, the driver of a Dodge Ram was heading north on Broadway when he collided with Rivera and drove off.

Police responded to a 911 call and found him unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to his body.

Rivera was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Rivera's 75-year-old aunt, Maggie Mendez, told the Daily News that he was an artist and that his death has broken her "heart because he was like a son."

No arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
