
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An 88-year-old man was fatally struck by a driver pulling out of a Queens restaurant parking lot, police announced Sunday.

The 52-year-old driver of a 2018 Honda Fit was making a left turn out of Izakaya MEW, a Japanese restaurant in Flushing, and hit Thomas Soong at around 9:20 p.m. on March 11, according to police.
The intersections on either side of the restaurant are historically dangerous. Over the course of the past decade, 14 crashes took place at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and 146th Street and 11 crashes took place at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and 147th Street, according to NYC Crash Mapper.
Before this incident, the two intersections were responsible for 25 injuries and two deaths since 2011.
Soong, who lived near the restaurant, suffered a head injury and was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Queens in serious condition.
He died from his injuries on March 14 at around 6 p.m., authorities said.
The driver stayed on the scene and was not immediately charged, though the NYPD is still investigating the crash.
