NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An intruder broke into a Midtown FDNY firehouse Tuesday through a second-story window, attempted to steal some items and then fought two firemen before being arrested, police said.
Police were called to Engine Company 26 on West 37th Street near Seventh Avenue around 9:40 p.m. after Michael Nahaczewski, 38, was seen climbing the side of the firehouse and entering the second-floor window.
Nahaczewski was trying to remove some personal items from the firefighter's sleeping areas, police said, when firefighters returned from a call and noticed Nahaczewski rummaging through their belongings.
Firefighters called the police and grabbed Nahaczewski, which led to a fight.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the struggle, but they were able to subdue Nahaczewski before cops arrived.
Nahaczewski was charged with attempted assault, petit larceny, possession of a firearm, disorderly conduct, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
