NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A woman was found shot to death during a wellness check at her Queens home, police said Friday.
NYPD officers went to check on 23-year-old Alexa Ruiz at her home on 56th Drive, between 59th Place and 60th Street, in Maspeth on Wednesday night when they made the gruesome discovery.
Officers discovered Ruiz lying unresponsive in a first-floor bedroom just after 8 p.m., police said. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
She had a gunshot wound to the back of her head, according to police.
Her father called 911 for a wellness check after he hadn’t heard from her in days, according to WABC.
There were reportedly no signs of forced entry at the home, suggesting the victim knew her killer. Police haven't named any suspects in the case.
No arrests have been reported as of Friday, police said.
