Upon arrival, officers observed a 33-year-old man who was unconscious and unresponsive.

A preliminary investigation determined that the 33-year-old man approached two men, both 29-years-old, displayed a firearm and demanded money.

A physical confrontation ensued, and the two men physically restrained the armed suspect in an attempt to gain control of the firearm, officials said.

During the struggle, the armed man became unconscious. Sources told the Staten Island Advance that a martial arts technique was used on him.

An imitation firearm was recovered on scene.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The two men sustained minor injuries and were treated at Staten Island University South Hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing.
