Man charged with murder after dead woman found near LI dumpster on Valentine's Day

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 25-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder after a woman's body was found on Valentine's Day behind a Nassau County auto parts store, police said late Thursday.

Andrew D. Avilla, of Elmont, was due to be arraigned on the charge Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Nassau County police responded to a call at 7:40 a.m. on Feb. 14 reporting a woman on the ground, next to a dumpster, in the back of Advanced Auto Parts on Grand Avenue in South Hempstead.

The victim, identified by police on Thursday as Rebecca Carlson, 39, of Hempstead, was pronounced dead at the scene.
