
FREEPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A homeless man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he fatally struck a pedestrian on Long Island on Wednesday, authorities said.
According to detectives, just after 7 p.m., 32-year-old Tyshaun Johashen was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra southbound on Babylon Turnpike in the vicinity of Carroll Street in Freeport when he struck a 24-year-old woman.
She was later identified at Mia Pollidore, a Freeport resident.
Pollidore suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johashen remained at the scene and was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, officials said.
