Minneapolis fire crews were dispatched to the blaze on the first floor of a multi-story building on the 15-hundred block of Portland Avenue just south of downtown.
When they made entry, firefighters found an unconscious adult male with burn injuries just inside the unit. After lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators believe a bed had been on fire but burned itself out prior to them arriving.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
