Five teenage boys have been arrested after an attempted carjacking in Edina. They were all students at Edina High School. The attempted carjacking happened last Wednesday the intersection of 70th and Antrim Road, not far from Valley View Middle School that went into lock down for a short time.

Police said one of the five teenage boys allegedly pointed a gun at the victim who was able to drive away. The teens fled but were apprehended just minutes later. An airsoft gun was recovered from one of the suspects.

Edina Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley released the following statement on Tuesday:

"The physical and psychological safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to me and my administrative team. I am thankful that all our students and staff were safe as this event unfolded. The Edina Police Department apprehended the teens involved in five minutes. They have not been back to school since this incident took place and are no longer enrolled in Edina Public Schools. This is an unfortunate event that has touched our entire community; it does not reflect us or our values. We are grateful for our collaboration with the Edina Police Department and their incredibly swift action."
