People whose loved ones were killed at the hands of police are calling on legislators to take action on reform.

They see Minnesota as a "ground zero" for change after George Floyd was killed one year ago by convicted cop Derek Chauvin, and many believe the state has fallen short in meaningful reform.

"These bills need to be passed," said Katie Wright, whose son Daunte was shot and killed by a Brooklyn Park, Minn. police officer last month. "Because, if not, there's going to be another Daunte, another name behind hashtags, and we're not okay with that. Something has to change."

The Minnesota legislature meets for a special session in the coming weeks.

The Republican-controlled state senate has not held hearings on House proposals including ending traffic stops for expired tabs.
