Sunday morning WCCO's Laura Oakes gets to share a little bit of what's going right in the world on her show, "Laura's Good News."
This weekend Laura talks with some friends of hers who were high school sweethearts, got married, had good jobs, raised a family, and retired early so they could hit the road in an RV and see the country. As you might imagine, this involved a lot of planning, downsizing and pretty much getting rid of all of their stuff, which isn't so easy to do.
“We still ended up with a whole bunch of stuff that went to a basement storage area that we didn't touch for the four years that we were there,” says Kim Chalmers. “So that's the stuff that it was really easy to get rid of because it hadn't even come out of totes that we had had in our house a couple miles away. “There was one thing that my sister is keeping for me that one of my grandmothers had and when we're done maybe I'll take that back. But that's it.”

Kim and Dave Chalmers kicked off their new lifestyle last summer, hitting a wide swath of states before winding up back in the Twin Cities for a short visit recently. They just took off for the second leg of their adventure.
“From starting here, we're gonna head straight south through Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and then we wind up in Arizona,” Chalmers tells WCCO. “Going to spend about four months in Arizona. And then from there we're going to head north through Utah into Wyoming and South Dakota, and then we got to head straight west and go to Montana because next July we actually leave for a two month trip to Alaska. So we're really looking forward to that. That's gonna be a big step for us.”

Kim and Dave Chalmers shared many more details of their travels in Laura's full interview, which you can hear on Laura's Good News this Sunday morning at 6:30 on WCCO Radio and the Audacy app.
