One St. Paul business owner is hoping to make Valentine's Day a special one for anyone who might know the writer and sender of love letters dating back to the 1950s.

Golden Fig owner Laurie McCann Crowell bought a pack of love letters at a recent antique sale. The love letters were a three month time capsule of Bob in Newark and Louise in Minneapolis dating back to 1953-1954.

"There were these three bundles tied together with twine. As a kid I collected stamps and they had these beautiful stamps and lovely handwriting," McCann Crowell told WCCO Radio's Vineeta Sawkar on Tuesday morning.

She ended up purchasing the love letters and was taken away by the messages Bob sent to Louise.

"My darling, darling love" one of the letters starts. In another letter, Bob writes, "Dear honey doll."

Crowell-McCann believes Bob may have been attending school at Rutgers University based on the letterhead some of the letters are written on.

"I sometimes feel like you never really know how things end up and accidentally one box got send one place instead of the place it was supposed to go and all of a sudden you don't realize they're missing," McCann Crowell said. "These are 70 years old. They're from December 1953 and January through March 1954."

In another exchange, Louise asks Bob what color of socks he would like for her to knit for him.

Laurie says she's amazed by the love Bob showed in his writing, including the following message: "Goodnight sweetheart. The Lord bless and keep you. I'm glad all things are working well together. All my love to my only cuddle doll, your Bob. P.S. Every little breeze still whispers Louise."

The Golden Fig is selling chocolates that include a tag on them featuring words from the love letters. While it's a special message on Valentine's Day, it's also part of an effort to find out more about the couple.

"Hopefully somebody might recognize who these folks are. I imagine they have grandkids and great grandkids by now. I'd love to find them and give the letters back to them."
