Even with promising COVID-19 vaccine news, Wayzata Brew Works announced today they’re going out of business immediately. Kirk Litynski is the operation director for the brewery and says they can’t afford to keep going with all of the unknowns.
"If you have the regular customer base and the Governor says okay until people get vaccinations we're not opening anything up. We can't just stay in limbo for six months and, you know, try to, pay everything without much income coming in."
Litynkski says before the latest shutdown, Wayzata Brew Works was able to do business safely thanks to the installation of an outdoor stage and the extension of their outdoor patio. According to Litynski, there were no COVID-19 cases associated with Wayzata Brew Works.
"We know this because the MDH would have called us and said we have a case of
a person that's tested positive for the coronavirus and we think it might have come back to your establishment."
Still, the brewery is closing its doors and like many other establishments across the state, the closure comes with a plea to state officials about COVID-19 decisions.
"Democrat, Republican, Independent, they really have to look at the impact that they're having on businesses in the decisions that they're making. Are they really making a difference in the numbers or the numbers popping up somewhere else?"
The closure means 10 people no longer have jobs and Litynski says the impact goes beyond the employees.
"You know, it impacts bands and musicians and, you know, like when we had the holiday market impacts both people that are arts and crafts and,
you know, whatever. I mean, So the impact is a lot more than just the waiter or the waitress or the cook. I mean, it impacts everyone."
