The Bruins continue to work toward rounding out their forward group, reportedly signing Morgan Geekie to a two-year deal with an average annual value of $2 million. The team later confirmed the signing.
Geekie, who turns 25 later this month, spent the last two seasons with the Seattle Kraken after starting his career with the Carolina Hurricanes.
He brings some size (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) and versatility to the Bruins' bottom six, as he can play center or wing.
Geekie had a career-high 28 points last season on nine goals and 19 assists. There's some playmaking upside there, as he actually ranked 10th in the NHL in 5-on-5 assists per 60 minutes among 382 qualified forwards.
Geekie isn't exactly a shutdown defensive player, but it's a relatively low-risk signing and could really pay off if Geekie taps into more of the offense he showed coming up through juniors and the AHL.
Geekie joins veterans James van Riemsdyk and Milan Lucic as reported additions to the Bruins' forward group, bringing them up to nine forwards signed once all those deals get finalized.
