It's safe to say Brad Marchand doesn't have too many fans in other NHL markets. That includes North Carolina, where the state's governor is now taking shots at the Bruins winger.
After the Hurricanes' dominant 6-0 win over the Bruins on Thursday, Governor Roy Cooper decided to take a victory lap on Twitter and kick Marchand, who is currently serving a six-game suspension, while he's down.
Marchand has been in the crosshairs of the Carolina fanbase since he took a couple shots of his own at the Hurricanes last month, which Cooper references in the tweet.
The first was when Marchand weighed in on a comparison between himself and Hurricanes forward Vincent Trocheck, saying it was "like comparing a Lambo to a Prius."
After the Hurricanes beat the Bruins 7-1 that night, Marchand responded to one of the team's tweets by saying Carolina is "still the reason we pay 20% in escrow."
In fairness, you can't really blame Cooper and Hurricanes fans for feeling a bit cocky right now. Their team has the second-best record in the NHL and has now outscored the Bruins 16-1 in their three head-to-head meetings this season, all Carolina wins.
It's also worth noting, though, that the Bruins have beaten the Hurricanes in the playoffs twice in the last three years, with Carolina winning just one game total in a pair of series in 2019 and 2020.
The Bruins and Hurricanes do not meet again this regular season.
