As we enter the 2024 offseason, the future of the New England Patriots very much remains a mystery. Head coach Bill Belichick will meet with ownership this week to discuss the direction of the franchise, and, according to multiple reports, it’s “expected” that they’ll part ways.

On Monday morning during his annual year-end press conference, Belichick was asked if he’d consider relinquishing personnel control over the team. He sounded open to the idea:

”Yeah look,” the head coach explained, “I'm for whatever, collectively, we decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team. I have multiple roles in that and I rely on a lot of people to help me in those responsibilities. Somebody's got to have the final say. I rely on a lot of people to help and however that, whatever that process is, I'm only part of it.”

Belichick was also asked about the team he put together this season and if he thinks it was built to make the playoffs.

“Yeah, the moves that we made, given the options that we had, felt like we did what was best for the football team each time,” he answered. “Obviously, the results aren't good. Some of those things were, I think, positive. Some of them didn't work out as well as we hoped they would, and there were other circumstances in some of the other decisions as well. So, we'll go back and look at all of them and, again, look forward to working towards solutions and things that will improve our team.”

Belichick also clarified that he’s still under contract with the Patriots, making the impending decision more complex, to say the least.
