The 6 Rings Postgame Show: Mike Kadlick joins the discussion on the Patriots' unexpected turn in Pittsburgh
While Bill Belichick may have helped his job status on Thursday night thanks to his Patriots' grabbing a 21-18 win over the Steelers, the questions will likely still remain as New England is still 3-10 on the season and all but out of playoff contention.
Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, however, doesn't see Belichick coaching anywhere other than Foxborough. He joined Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast this week and said that he'd be "surprised" to see him coach elsewhere:
"I would be surprised for him to go to a different team," Gronkowski explained. "It would just be really weird, first off. It would just be weird seeing him on another team. I mean, he’s been with New England for so long."
He continued: "I kind of feel like, yeah, this season is really rough, but he is still one of the greatest coaches of all time. There's no doubt about that. I played for him. I learned from him. He helped develop me to be the player that I was. There's no doubt about that. And he, if he's not one of the greatest coaches of all time, he is the greatest coach of all time. He knows his football inside and out. I saw it firsthand every single day. There's no doubt about that."
Belichick helped Gronkowski become one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. The 2010 second-round pick out of Arizona amassed over 9,000 yards and 92 touchdowns during his 11-year career. He was also a four-time All-Pro and, of course, a four-time Super Bowl champion.
"Just to see him on another team would be really weird," Gronkowski professed, while saying that he doesn't see his run in Foxborough ending just yet. "I believe he's really grandfather-claused in with the New England Patriots. I mean, he would have to have another year like this year, next year for them to finally be like ‘Alright, it's time. Let's move on.’ But, I truly believe that he will be [with the Patriots] next year.”
