And just like that, Malik Cunningham is a Patriots again.

After being waived by the team on Tuesday, the versatile quarterback/wide receiver combo cleared waivers and will now sign back to New England’s practice squad, according to multiple reports.

Cunningham had been on the team’s practice squad since September but was signed to that active roster, on a three-year deal, on October 15. He was active for their Week 6 contest vs. the Raiders in Las Vegas but was inactive last week against Buffalo.

On Wednesday, head coach Bill Belichick told reporters that they "did what was best for the team," when waiving Cunningham, followed by saying they'd look to re-sign him should he clear. Now that looks to be the case.

The Patriots will need to make a subsequent transaction when making the signing official as their practice squad is currently full.
