6 rings: projecting the patriots 53-man roster
The Patriots preseason has come to an end, and with that means us media folk no longer have complete access to the entirety of practice.
Fear not, however. Attendance is still taken every day and with roster cuts looming as the club must get down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m., New England took the field on Sunday as they get ready for week one versus the Eagles. Here’s the report:
Attendance:
Absent: Isaiah Bolden, Tyquan Thornton, Scotty Washington, Christian Gonzalez, CJ Marable, Rodney Randle, Ronnie Perkins, Kody Russey Micah Vanterpool Riley Reiff Conor McDermott, Justus Tavai
PUP: Cody Davis, Trey Flowers
NFI: Calvin Anderson
Other Notes:
- The Patriots traded running back Pierre Strong Jr. to Cleveland Browns on Sunday morning in exchange for tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr. He projects as a depth piece along New England’s banged up offensive line.
- Diego Fagot, Johnny Lumpkin, and Brad Hawkins were released, per the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.
- Johnathan Jones and Cole Strange returned to practice.
- Demario Douglas was in a red, non-contact practice jersey.
- Tight end Mike Gesicki was no longer in a red, non-contact practice jersey.
- Calvin Anderson, who is on the non-football illness list, was spotted working out on the upper conditioning fields.
