The Patriots are looking to add running back depth prior to training camp next week.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, New England is working out free agent RB Leonard Fournette on Wednesday.
Fournette was drafted by the Jaguars with the fourth overall in 2017 and played three seasons in Jacksonville before being released prior to the 2020 season.
The former LSU Tiger has spent the last three seasons in Tampa Bay, winning Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers alongside former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. He was released by the club in March.
The Patriots hosted Fournette on a free agent visit prior to the 2022 season before he ultimately chose to re-sign with Tampa Bay.
Their interest in him, clearly, remains. We’ll see if they can get a deal done prior to camp.
Fournette would enter a room with Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong Jr., Kevin Harris, and JJ Taylor.
