Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills made only one deal prior to Tuesday's trade deadline across the NFL. That saw Buffalo acquire a 2024 fifth-round pick and cornerback Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick.

Douglas has played seven years in the NFL, the past three with the Packers, and won a Super Bowl during his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. The 28-year-old has appeared in 96 NFL games, starting 57 of them, and recording 15 interceptions.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane talked at great lengths about his newest member of the cornerbacks room. He says Douglas can bring a different edge to the Buffalo secondary.

"When he went to Green Bay, the light came on for him. He started turning over some big plays, and he's very instinctive," said Beane during his press conference with the assembled media on Wednesday. "We talk about instincts all the time, and really defining instincts is more the coach can show you everything, but sometimes the team's showing you something else that the coach hasn't shown you, and do you react right away? You just instinctively know what to do, because you understand how it all fits together."

The Bills defense has suffered it's share of major injuries this season to the likes of linebacker Matt Milano, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, and cornerback Tre'Davious White. With that said, Beane knew the team needed to find the best move to help fill the holes on defense.

"That's what Sean [McDermott] and I were talking about. What is out there that can help us?," Beane said. "Naturally, you're gonna look on defense, because that's where we lost DaQuan, Matt, and 'Tre'. We looked everywhere, and ultimately found that this was the best move for us."

There have been points this season where the Bills have drastically underperformed from their standards, especially against lesser opponents. Despite this, Beane still believes his team will find their stride when it matters most.

"I believe in this team. I believe there's a lot of good things happening," he said. "Yes, we've lost some games, but we're not getting our doors blown off, anything like that. If we were getting run out of the gym, I'd be concerned. All these games that you win or lose, there's just some things you've got to clean up, but this team is still forming its identity. While we know a lot more than we knew probably four or five weeks ago, I wouldn't say we know exactly where this team is going to be."
