McDermott won't let injuries be an excuse in Bills' loss in Houston

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his team's 23-19 loss to the Texans

Houston, Texas (WGR Sports Radio 550) - In a game that saw the defense bail the Buffalo Bills out in the second half and keep the team alive in Houston, the offense could not find a way to pull off a late comeback in a 23-19 loss to the Texans at NRG Stadium on "Thursday Night Football".

Injuries were a big storyline for the Bills on Thursday, especially on the defensive side of the ball once again.

The Bills lost linebacker Terrel Bernard in the third quarter with an elbow injury, while rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston also left in the second half after being evaluated for a concussion.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott is not using injuries from this game as an excuse for the way the contest played out in the end.

"We've gotta stay in this thing. We grind and we grind it out. This is what you do. You compete, this is what you signed up for. This is what you do," said McDermott following the loss with the media. "The effort, the will the guys have, I don't question that one bit."

One of the more telling stats of the game was the amount of hits quarterback Josh Allen took from the relentless Texans defense. Allen was hit 12 times when dropping back to pass, and ended up being sacked a career-high eight times.

."I don’t like that stat at all, and it’s not a healthy way to play or a healthy way to keep our quarterback healthy through the remainder of the season," McDermott acknowledged.
