MUSKEGON, Mich. (WWJ) -- Summer unofficially begins this Memorial Day weekend and a Michigan summer staple is making its return after a year away.

While only the WildWater Adventure Park was open in 2020, the amusement park at Michigan’s Adventure will open on Saturday after taking a year off due to COVID-19 concerns.

The amusement park will be open only on weekends until June 19, when the waterpark also reopens. Both parks are scheduled to be open five days a week -- Thursday-Monday -- at that point through the rest of the summer.

While the parks’ reopening signals somewhat of a return to normalcy post-pandemic in Michigan, there will still be some COVID-19 protocols in place. Temperature checks for guests have been discontinued, but they will still be subject to a health screen questionnaire at the front gate.

There will no longer be capacity limits on any rides, but those who are not fully vaccinated will still be required to wear a mask when indoors or actively eating or drinking. Unvaccinated guests are still encouraged to wear masks outdoors.

Tickets must be reserved online at miadventure.com and cannot be purchased at the gates.

So other than some changes in protocols, what’s new at the Muskegon park this summer?

“We have our new Camp Snoopy,” Laure Bollenbach tells WWJ. “It’s an area in the middle of the park, mainly geared towards families with younger children. There are five new rides there and a large playground.”

(NAME) says it’s a perfect place for families because the rides are for children to ride with an adult or accompanying companion.
