TROY (WWJ) -- An alleged underage drinker found asleep behind the wheel of a car along I-75 is facing a pair of misdemeanor charges.
The 20-year-old Genesee County woman was arrested last Saturday morning, after Troy police responded to a call about a black sedan pulled over on the freeway.
Police arrived at 5:40 a.m. and spotted the vehicle parked on the left shoulder of northbound I-75 at Crooks Road.
Officers approached the car and found the driver asleep in the driver's seat.
According to the police report, the young woman told officers that she'd had two shots of alcohol the night before, and that she'd pulled over on the shoulder to sleep when she got tired while driving home.
Police said they found a half-empty liquor bottle on the front passenger seat of the car.
After the driver allegedly failed a field sobriety test, she blew a .065% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a breathalyzer test.
While the legal limit to drive in Michigan is 0.08%, anyone under age 21 with a BAC of more than 0.02% may be arrested under the Zero Tolerance law.
The driver, identified as a Burton resident, was arrested and was taken to the Troy Police lock-up where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .06%. and .05%, police said.
She was issued a citation for Person Under 21 Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content 0.02-0.08% and Transport/Possess Open Intoxicant in Vehicle. Her name was not released.
