TROY (WWJ) -- A Sterling Heights man was arrested, and ultimately charged with drug possession, after people reported his bizarre behavior in a parking lot in Troy.
Troy Police said officers responded at around 11 p.m. last Monday to calls about a suspicious person who was driving through the parking lot of the Troy Marriott, on W. Big Beaver Rd., while taking photos of vehicle license plates and yelling at hotel guests.
Hotel security shared a description of the suspect's vehicle with police, who then spotted the 2022 Chevy Tahoe as it entered a turnaround on Big Beaver and began driving the wrong way — heading eastbound in the westbound lanes.
When officers pulled the 40-year-old driver over, they said he "made multiple incoherent statements to officers that he was being followed and listened to via his cell phone," according to a police report.
When the man gave officers permission to go get his driver’s license from the center console of the vehicle, police said they noticed a glass meth pipe.
Officers then searched the SUV and and found "suspected narcotics," which the driver then told officers was either meth or cocaine.
The man was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up.
Police said the substance later tested positive for cocaine, and the man was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
His name was not released.
