STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A 29-year-old Sterling Heights man lost his life after getting into a car crash with someone who ran a red light.

At approximately 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Sterling Heights police officers and a fire crew were dispatched to the scene of the crash at northbound Van Dyke and westbound Metro Parkway.

Initial investigation indicates that a 34-year-old Chesterfield Township resident in a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling westbound on the Metro Parkway and ignored a red light.

Witnesses on the scene told police that as the Dodge entered the northbound lanes of Van Dyke, the driver collided with a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle that was also traveling north through a green light.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement while the 29-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital.

However, the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

At this time, police say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

The intersection was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.

Anyone that may have information relating to this crash is asked to contact Officer J. Wilson of the Traffic Safety Bureau at 586-446-2920.
